What is so brilliant about the gadgets

29th March 2016

“What is so brilliant about the gadgets is their simplicity.” Desmond Llewelyn, best known for his role as Q in 17 of the James Bond films, got that right.

Jason, and the Gadget Show team also love gadgets, and we are equally excited about the groundbreaking tech to be showcased at Britain’s largest consumer electronics show.

To set things straight, we are talking about serious gadgetry: drones, robots, and of course the Internet of Everything, as seen on Forbes.

Another great thing are wearables. Wearable technology is predicted to become a market worth over $30 billion by 2020.

You probably wonder if Bluetooth is draining the battery on all those connected devices; The answer is that this was the case until not long ago, but with new algorithms, new low power stacks and of course energy harvesting. Massive: Bluetooth enabled devices reached 4.2Bn in 2015.

2016 is turning into an exciting year for gadget lovers and we are seeing some trends:

Popularity of wearables will continue to grow; In 2015, at a 57.7 percent increase over 2014, 39.5 million U.S. adults 18+ wore technology, including smartwatches and fitness trackers – a trend that, according to eMarketer, will continue in 2016 and beyond, with 81.7 million adults using wearables by 2018.

Whilst numerous technology industry watchers predicted the Apple Watch to “unwind the fitness band business, but that hasn’t happened,”(The Wall Street Journal, Dec. ´15), smartwatches are unlikely to replace dedicated activity trackers.

The fitness/activity tracker market alone saw a 228% increase to 39.1M sold from 2014 to 2015. Personal item trackers – like LUPO, will experience a similar spike by 2017. This means that the crowd-sourced positioning will also grow exponentially.

Speaking of incedible gadgetry, remember how we told you last year that we perfected the LUPO? Well, we’ve done it again. LUPO Lite now comes in a sleek metallic finish and improved functionality, letting you call your iPhone right from your LUPO.
